TEMPO Interactive, Banda Aceh:The Indonesian government consider that the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) is violating the basic concepts of the Peace Accord signed on December 9, 2002, in Geneva. This is related to GAM leaders considering this as a process of achieving independence. I think it is a very serious matter and has to be solved properly, said Coordinating Minister of Political and Security Affairs, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, after presiding at a closed-meeting on the recent situation in Aceh on Tuesday (11/2). According to Yudhoyono, the stance of the GAM leaders is contradictory to the peace accord spirit and even violates the agreement. As for Indonesian government, Yudhoyono explained, the peace accord was intended to solve the problems in Aceh peacefully with a special autonomy status for the province. Through the day, Yudhoyono headed the meeting at which other state officials were present, including the Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief Endriartono, the National Police Chief Dai Bachtiar, Chief of Iskandar Muda Military Command Djali Yusuf, Chief of the Aceh Police Bahrumsyah, and the Indonesian representative on the Joint Security Committee Safzen Nurdin. According to Yudhoyono, this was the first security meeting be held in Aceh and it evaluated the peace accord that has been implemented for two months. Within the five months, the government will critically correct the process to avoid any failure. We want to realize the peace that the Acehnese have been dreaming of, he said. The Indonesian government, Yudoyono said, will report the latest situation in Aceh to the United Nations to describe the process of creating peace. (Yuswardi A. SuudTempo News Room)
