UK to Increase Investment in Indonesia

17 July 2003 09:33 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The British Ambassador to Indonesia Richard Gozney met with the chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) regional representative faction (FUD) Oesman Sapta on Wednesday (22/01) at the legislature complex in Jakarta. During the meeting with Sapta, Gozney discussed economic matters, especially as regards British investment in Indonesia. Gozney also provided Sapta with information on economic and political policies in developed countries such as USA, France and Australia. Gozney told reporters that the British government has decided not to withdraw its investment in Indonesia. The British government is even planning to increase its investment in Indonesian regions. Up to now, British companies still here will not withdraw their investment in Indonesia. Some even plan to increase their investment here, said Gozney. According to Gozney, he is not yet worried on the political situation in Indonesia as the democratic process improves from day to day. Gozney also said he considered the increasing number of protests in Indonesia as normal. Its a normal condition within democracy, he stated. However, Gozney reminded that protesters should carry out their protests according to prevailing laws. If any rioting occurred during protests, this will certainly disturb foreign investment in Indonesia. If the protesters violate the law, this is not proper. But, I dont want to say what should and should not be done by Indonesia. Its none of my business, stated Gozney. (Andi Dewanto Tempo News Room)
