TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The National Police still have no proof of Fathur Rohman's alleged involvement with the Al Qaeda network, nor that he was involved in other terrorist acts that have taken place in Indonesia or abroad. Two Indonesian officers met with Fathur in the Phillipines last Wednesday (23/1), but found no indications he was involved in specific terrorist incidents that have taken place in Indonesia. Further verification is needed to implicate Fathur in a bombing that took place at the residence of the Philippines Ambassador in Jakarta, in 2000. “We have not made any conclusions,” said National Police Chief Da’i Bachtiar before attending a meeting with House Commission II today (28/1). Despite this police are still conducting investigations into Fathur Rohman Al Ghozi's activities. “We are in the process of a national investigation,” explained the Police Chief. Da’i said the Philippines police would also investigate the possibility of Fathur's involvement in some bombing actions in the Phillipines itself. Da’i added that Fathur had told the two police officers that he had studied abroad in Lahore, Pakistan, after which he moved from place to place. Therefore, Fathur has many friends in Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Yet, there is no significant indication that he is involved in the Al Qaeda network headed by Osama bin Laden. Da’i said the National Police have sent two teams of officers abroad to conduct investigations into this matter. The first team consists of those two officers sent to the Philippines, whilst the second team, headed by Inspector General Ahwil Luthan, was sent to Malaysia and then Singapore. “Mr Ahwil is responsible for coordinating with the Malaysian of Indonesian citizens arrested in Malaysia, such as Abu Jibril alias Iqbal.
