“How could military chiefs be replaced in just three days? It’s not as simple as that,” he said.
According to Gus Dur, the rumors of him replacing military chiefs were being spread yesterday by certain groups behind recent demonstrations. This was a ploy by these groups, the President explained, to cover the cost of the demonstrations. The groups, according to Gus Dur, wanted clashes to occur, as this would cause the value of the US Dollar to rise from Rp 9,100 to Rp 9,500. “The Rp 400 profit they make will be used to pay the protesters,” he clarified
Gus Dur re-confirmed he would not resign as Indonesian President. “I will remain in this position until the end of the period,” he said.
Asked about the possibility of a special DPR session on the Bulog and Bruneigate cases, Gus Dur replied: “I don’t want to answer this question now as it all depends on DPR members.”
When asked about the vacant position of Supreme Court Chief Justice, Gus Dur said that he was still waiting for a response from DPR. He said he had already sent a letter to DPR rejecting Muladi and Bagir Manan, and asking for new candidates. “So, we’ll just have to wait for the House’s response,” he said.
