Bishop of SoE City, P. Simon Suni SVD, confirmed the situation today in Kupang. According to Simon, it is natural that the refugees are afraid, since there is no certain information about security condition in East Timor.
However, although some are still reluctant to go home, majority of the refugees have already returned to East Timor. Churches, governmental bodies and humanitarian institutions alike are expected to help those who remain or choose to stay in Indonesia.
“The refugees came here not on their own will, but because of the disadvantageous social political condition following the referendum in East Timor.”
