Akbar announced this to the press at the legislaturecomplex today (20/6) responding to rumors about theacceleration of the MPR special session as proposed bykey figures from five major factions. One of the fivefactions is Golkar Party’s faction, which is AkbarTandjung’s party.
Akbar explained that the appointed Ad Hoc panel hadalready prepared the agenda for the special session.“So, it is up to the MPR now if we are to go aheadwith the accelerated special session,” he said inresponse to the MPR speaker Amien Rais who had saidthat the session may be accelerated if the DPRsupported the move.
Akbar Tandjung regrets the president’s planned trip toAustralia, the Philippines and Japan that is scheduledto take place next week. In Tandjung’s view the tripshould not be a priority given the turbulent domesticenvironment. “The President should concentrate on thisspecial session. I have said this time and timeagain,” he said.
