Agum said that Indonesian military headquarters had assigned aninvestigation team to Maluku just a couple days after the incident. Theinvestigation team will be protected by troops stationed in Maluku. Agumsaid that the military was seeking out those responsible for the armedmovement. "Whatever this movement might be," he said firmly.
However, the troops were caught in gunfire recently. The incident claimedmany lives on both sides, Agum explained. Therefore, he warned all sidesnot to make black and white conclusions, as it is precisely this type ofissue that can snowball into something worse. "All sides should simplystand back and resist the many rumors that are really just a call forfurther violent action," Agum added.
As reported, Joint Battalion II of the Indonesian Military stationed inMaluku had attacked an armed Jihad Force. Many sides have complained thatthe military's security searches had been over the top and rogue-like, someeven suggesting that they had violated basic human rights. Responding tothis, the National Commission on Human Rights will expedite the formationof an Investigation Commission on Human Rights Violation regarding the case.
