MPR to Announce Candidates for Vice Presidency on Wednesday

Amien added that a second vote would be held to electthe vice president from a list of two candidates whogain the most votes from the original vote. “Thecandidate who gets the most votes will be elected asvice president to stand alongside President Megawati,”he said.
Amien, the chairman of central executive board of theNational Mandate Party(PAN), said that his party hasnot nominated a candidate for the vice presidency.“This does not mean that we do not want to be involvedin the process. PAN will vote, and we might nominatesomeone if there are only three to four candidates forthe vice presidency,” he said.
Amien said the vote looked likely to take place soon,even though the previous consensus was that it shouldbe suspended until the annual session of the MPR intwo months time. “This time round, it seems that thestronger power should not be suspended,” he said.
Amien called upon the people to support the new vicepresident morally and politically. And he deniedrumors that he had nominated himself to become vicepresident. (Dara Meutia Uning)
