Singh added that the IMF-Indonesia talks were mostlyrelated with the content of the Letter of Intent(LoI),including monetary and fiscal policies. However, hedeclined to reveal any real details about today’smeeting explaining that the IMF team still had severalmore meetings with Indonesia’s economic teamthroughout the week. Singh has promised to inform thepublic about the meetings next Monday (27/08).
Rini Suwandi, Minister of Industry and Trade, made asimilar comment. Rini said that the meetings and thetalks have gone according to schedule. She admittedthat the Indonesian economic team still has severalmatters to discuss with the IMF team but she refusedto reveal the content. She merely stated that therewould be no signing of the LoI today.
Rini and Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, the CoordinatingMinister for the Economy, will inform Vice PresidentHamzah Haz about the IMF-Indonesia meetings duringtheir meeting tomorrow. “We’ll merely update VicePresident Hamzah that the IMF-Indonesia negotiationscontinue,” Rini said.
Syahril Sabirin, Bank Indonesia (BI) governor, madesimilar comments. “We’ll probably give reports aboutthe progress of the IMF-Indonesia meeting to the vicepresident. There’s nothing wrong with that, right?”Syahril said when the press asked him regarding thecontent of LoI draft.
Syahril added that the talks with the IMF team havegone according to plan and hardly suffered anysetbacks. In his view, the most important thing isthat the IMF team has understood the matters that havebeen conveyed by Indonesia’s economic team. “The mostimportant thing now is that our meeting has gone verysmoothly and we’re on the right track,” Syahril saidquoting Singh.
