DPR Urges Finance Ministry to Investigate Fat Accounts Owned By Civil Servants

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Legislators from the House of Representatives (DPR) have requested the Finance Ministry to immediately follow-up information gathered by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) with regard to suspicious accounts. Most of the accounts belonged to civil servants working for the Finance Ministry.The PPATK has access to financial transaction data. The information is very credible. The Finance Ministry must show seriousness in following up [the information], said Finance Commission member Kemal Azis Stamboel on Sunday.According to Kemal, the Finance Ministry must open up and continue to conduct internal corrections because the ministry has wide access to the state finances and, therefore, has high potential of misappropriation. The DPR will urge the [Finance] Ministry to explain the development of the investigation over these fat accounts owned by civil servants.Kemal added that if the case is neglected, it will influence the credibility of the bureaucracy reforms which is currently underway.
