TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-In a bid to overcome Jakarta's illegal parking problems, Governor Joko Widodo is planning to build an underground parking lot. The governor, better known as Jokowi, said this construction will allow the capital to have better parking arrangement.
"Everything will be under ground, none will be above," Jokowi said on Thursday, May 2, 2013.
He added that the underground parking lot will be located at the National Monument (Monas) area, across from the Jakarta City Hall. Construction has entered the detailed engineering design (DED) phase and groundbreaking is scheduled for next year.
When asked about the funding, Jokowi said he could not yet confirm the estimated fund required as the project is still in the study phase. However, judging from the scale of the project, it can be expected that the budget would be substantial.
The governor further added that the project's development will be fully submitted to the Department of Public Works.
