TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indra Sutisna, Art and Marketing Committee member of the Setu Babakan Betawi Culture Institutions, said that Setu Babakan has received a grant of Rp291 billion from Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo. The fund was given through the Jakarta Department of Tourism, and is to be used for two years, 2013 and 2014.
Indra said that the entire fund will be used to develop the township, located in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. "What are now under way are the construction of parking lots, a colosseum, an amphitheater, and an example of Betawi coastal housing around the entrance area, precisely at Bang Pitung Entrance I," he said, Tuesday, June 18.
Setu Babakan the name of a lake which is part of--and has become anonymous with--the Betawi Cultural Village, an area considered as one of the cultural heritages of Jakarta. The area is devoted to the preservation of the ethnic and cultural heritage of the indigenous Betawi people.
