TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo will immediately build an integrated waste management facility in Sunter, North Jakarta to lower garbage expenses. The cost of transporting waste to the Bantargebang landfill in Bekasi is deemed too expensive.
Jokowi said that the daily tipping fee to Bantargebang is Rp 114,000 per ton, while Jakarta produces 5,500 to 6,000 tons of waste per day.
"Therefore, we will have an integrated waste management facility," Jokowi said at Jakarta City Hall Wednesday, July 17.
Jokowi said that the Sunter Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF) has entered the contractors' bidding phase. The estimated tipping fee in the ITF is no more than Rp400,000 per ton.
Of about 40 contractors who participated in the bid, there are only three remaining. They are PT Wira Gulfindo Sarana--working with PT Ramky of India, PT Jakarta Green Initiative with Hitachi from Japan, and PT Phoenix Pembangunan--working with Singapore's Keppel Seghers.
Head of Jakarta Sanitation Department, Unu Nurdin, said that Jakarta's reliance on Bantargebang landfill is gradually declining. In addition to the ITF in Jakarta, the Sanitation Department is seeking to cooperate with private investors to manage trash from of elite residential areas.
"There are investors who are reviewing a number of locations, one of them is Pondok Indah," Unu said.
