TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta city administration has allocated Rp192 billion to acquire residents’ lands that will be affected by the planned restoration of the Ciliwung River in the Kampung Melayu-Manggarai segment.

“This segment is a priority,” said Jakarta Public Works Agency chief Manggas Rudy Siahaan after observing the river on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. The segment spans 4.8 kilometers.

Manggas said some 4,000 families living along the segment would be relocated.

Presently, there are 1,250 families living in Kampung Melayu, 750 families in Kebon Manggis, 1,300 families in Bukit Duri, and 900 families in Manggarai. Manggas said the city government was now introducing the program to would-be affected residents.

Besides the Kampung Melayu-Manggarai segment, the government also plans to restore the Ciliwung River’s Kampung Melayu-T.B.Simatupang segment. Manggas said the Public Works Ministry was still formulating the plan for the 19-kilometer segment.

“After the plan is completed, a gubernatorial regulation will be issued,” he said.
