TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Karen Agustiawan, the managing director of state-owned Oil and Gas company PT Pertamina, met Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo at the Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday, August 22, 2013 to discuss the planned construction of Pertamina Tower.
Karen said the 530-meter-tall skyscraper would be built in the area of Kuningan, on Jl. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta. “We invite the governor to jointly inaugurate the construction in December,” Karen told reporters after the meeting.
The Pertamina Tower, which comprises 99 floors on a 58,142-hectare land, will function as the company’s headquarters and its subsidiaries.
“But it won’t be used as a recreational spot, I won’t be able to work that way,” Karen laughed while answering a question on the possibility of the high-riser becoming one of the capital’s tourism icons.
Karen said the company projected that the construction would last from 2014-2018. She added the tower would be able to accomodate 24,000 people and equipped with parking facilities for 4,000 cars and 3,300 motorbikes.
Jakarta Governor Jokowi said he would support the construction of Pertamina Tower. “This could become a new icon for Jakarta,” he said.
“But Pertamina must also meet its obligation to construct low-cost apartments, maybe we would ask them to build a cluster in Marunda,” he added.
