TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) hopes that Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo would increase the budget allocation for public programs and reduce the regular budget for personnel expenses.
"Today's budget policy has not changed, it's the same as with the previous governors," said YLKI daily manager Sudaryatmo said Tuesday, October 15.
"Public spending could be bigger; not limited to infrastructure budget only, but it should be allotted for human resource management aspects as well," he argued. He hopes that Jokowi would consider YLKI's input when discussing the 2014 budget.
According to Sudaryatmo, Jokowi has a large capital to successfully lead Jakarta. "The public's trust in Jokowi-Ahok is still very high," he said. That trust, he said, is a very important social capital.
This is also what distinguishes Jokowi's leadership with Jakarta's previous governor, Fauzi Bowo. "In terms of programs, they are almost the same," he said.
