TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Results of a survey by Indo Barometer pollster reveal the degree of satisfaction of Jakartans towards the performance of Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo remains high at 87.5 percent, while Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama snatched 85.8 percent.
“These figures are very high,” Indo Barometer executive director M. Qodari said on Thursday, October 17, 2013.
Qodari called the results unusual as the degree of satisfaction towards elected officials normally declined in the first year after their election, referring to the results of a survey on the performance of President Yudhoyono. “The degree of satisfaction is even higher than the votes they garnered during the elections,” he said.
According to the results, he added, 73.8 percent of Jakartans claimed the capital’s conditions were better than last year in the social sector, and 62.8 percent said the capital’s present security also increased compared to last year.
Some 43.5 percent of Jakartans also said the capital’s economy is now better, and 22.5 percent said seeing improvement in the political field. Around 63.5 percent said flood mitigation efforts had improved, and 52.8 percent opined garbage handling was better.
The survey was carried out from October 4-10 in the capital, with data collected through face-to-face interviews using questionnaires. The survey employed the multistage random sampling method with respondents totaling 400 people. The margin of error is around 4.9 percent at the degree of satisfaction of 95 percent.
