Performance of Agency Chiefs Unsatisfactory: Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has admitted that he has marked which city department heads performed unsatisfactorily following his first year as the city’s leader. Jokowi said that agency chiefs from five mayoral offices and the Thousand Islands district are those he will evaluate.

"Many department chiefs are not performing well," he said on Saturday. He believes they are far out of reach, thus making them "feel they do not need to take work seriously".

The evaluation followed his inspection of the One Door Integrated Service Office in East Jakarta last Friday. First, he discovered a pile of trade business permit proposals in one corner that have been neglected and not processed. Then, he could not find those responsible for processing these requests in their offices.

The governor’s emotions ran even higher when he found a computer filled with important data that could not be turned on. He then threw a stack of files on top of a table in anger, left the building, and entered his car and slammed the door shut.

"I’ll replace them all," said the furious governor once he arrived at City Hall later in the afternoon.

Previously, Jokowi stated that he would not hesitate to revamp all working formations in city offices in order to maximize the performance of the city’s administation. An entire evaluation will be done in December.

"I never get angry. We'll just see who gets slaughtered next, before you know it they will lose their position," he said.
