TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- DKI Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has temporarily dismissed some officials from the capital city’s agencies who are suspected of being involved in corruption.
"If there are any indications leading toward that (corruption), I’ll immediately dismiss them, immediately replace them," the governor said on Thursday.
His decision followed a meeting held with the chief of the Jakarta Regional Employment Agency I Made Karmayoga. They discussed the futures of the head of the South Jakarta Spatial Planning Agency, head of the South Jakarta Communications, Information and Public Relations Agency, Yuswil Iswantara, and head of the Central Jakarta Communications, Information and Public Relations Agency, Ridha Bahar.
Jokowi said the case of these three individuals has actually been under investigation for a while, yet it was only revealed to the public this year. He added that their dismissal, however, would still be conducted "according to procedure".
Suprapto is suspected of taking kickbacks for processing permits during his time as the head of the Tebet Sub-district Spatial Planning division and head of the South Jakarta Spatial Planning Agency.
Ridha and Yuswil have been indicted by the Jakarta District Attorney for suspected misuse of the funds for the procurement of CCTVs at the National Monument in 2010.
Meanwhile, to avoid further cases of corruption, Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama said the Jakarta administration would partner up with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), Finance and Development Controller (BPKP), Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK).
The KPK will assist the capital city by being involved in procurement processes. It will reveal which steps are at risk of corruption or actually considered as corruption.
