TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The DKI Jakarta administration has formed a task force (satgas) to monitor puddles of water, due to rain, throughout the capital city. The team will report the location of these puddles to the city’s Public Works Agency, said DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnamaon Sunday.
Basuki said that many puddles have formed in Jakarta, especially on streets that lack drainages or sewers due to them being clogged by trash and underground cables.
This situation is worsened by soil degradation on Jakarta’s streets.
Basuki – popularly known as Ahok – said the infiltration wells currently being made by the Jakarta provincial administration would help alleviate puddles in the street.
"But these infiltration wells, to be honest, will not really help much," he said.
Records from the Center for Operations Control (Pusdalops) within the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency’s (BPBD) reveal the city has 25 puddle spots that appear following heavy rainfall.
