TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - DKI Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is racing against time to finish completing his projects for overcoming floods in the capital city. He said excavation projects on reservoirs and rivers throughout Jakarta must be complete by December 15 as the city needs to wrap up its 2013 fiscal year.
Jokowi visited the Sunter River excavation site on Monday to ensure it is being done well, while monitoring the end of the river still occupied by residents. He said that on field management is crucial in order to get the work done properly.
In the future, the governor said technical preparations would be conducted to anticipate rivers narrowing down.
"The problems in 884 small rivers and 13 major rivers in Jakarta are the same," he said.
