TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo has confirmed that all residents of the Ria Rio Reservoir in Kayu Putih, Pulogadung, East Java, who have been evicted, will receive their apartments. He has ensured that there will be a sufficient number of apartments to shelter the residents. “It is being organized,” he said at the town hall yesterday.
The governor added that a number of apartments can be utilized for the relocation of the residents. For instance, besides the Pinus Elok low-cost apartments in Cakung, there are the Cipinang Besar Selatan apartments in East Jakarta.
For the past two days, hundreds of residents—who used to live on the piece of land claimed to belong to former Vice President Adam Malik—have been living among the ruins, in tents. They are concerned because they have not been relocated, while their houses have been destroyed on Saturday, last week.
Meanwhile, on November 27, as many as 232 families have taken lottery numbers to obtain apartments, along with house keys and a compensation of Rp1 million per family. They will receive the rest of the Rp3 million compensation after they move to the apartments. They also receive facilities, such as stoves, refrigerators, television, spring beds and wardrobes.
According to data from Pulogadung Sub-District, there were 284 families living in the 2.1-hectare reservoir, from which only 232 have received apartments from the lottery. The rest will take numbers at the lottery on Thursday, December 5, and receive their apartments in West Cakung.
