TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Government has bought ten golden chariots for Rp1.3 billion. The chariots that were the work of craftsmen from Solo, Klaten and Yogyakarta, were used in a cultural festival on last Sunday, December 8.
"They will be used whenever there are festivals. So, they will also gain tourists' interest," Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said at the town hall, yesterday.
The governor said that the chariots that have the shapes which embodied Solo and its surrounding regions were chosen because they showed national diverse cultures. He said that Jakarta, where all cultural entities meet, should have them.
Currently, the chariots are parked at the town hall's porch. According to Tempo's observation, there were many employees and guests who took pictures on the chariots. "The plan is indeed to be for the public to take pictures, if displayed at Taman Mini," said Tourism and Culture Agency Chief Arie Budiman.
He added that the allocated fund to purchase those chariots was Rp1.2 billion, which was sourced from the 2013 State Budget.
