TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has banned civil servants from using their personal vehicles on Friday, January 3, 2014.
The ban is enforced through the Jakarta Governor Instruction No. 150/2013, signed on December 30, 2013. The Instruction requires all government officials and civil servants to commute without using personal or government-owned vehicles.
Jokowi said that some details in the instruction, including sanction for violators, are still being discussed.
The Governeor stated that civil servants will be encouraged to utilize public transportation or bicycles.
"The point is not to use cars. If the [travelling] distance is too far, then take public transportations," said Jokowi.
According to Jokowi, as an initial phase, the restriction will be applied every Friday of the first week of every month. However, the frequency can be increased.
