TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Administrative Government of West Jakarta has made sure that Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's order, which prohibits civil servants from driving their vehicles (cars and motorcycles) to work, was carried out immediately. City Secretary of West Jakarta Syamsudin Lologao vowed to personally guard the entrance to the Mayor’s Office and the parking structure starting yesterday. “We will be watching everyone who comes through."
Jokowi has issued Governor's Decree No. 150/2013 on the use of public transportation for DKI Jakarta government officials. The decree requires all civil servants and officials to use public transportation to get to work. They are prohibited to use their cars, motorcycles or operational vehicles of the government.
Syamsuddin said, the watchmen are responsible for observing every vehicle that comes through. “If any vehicle carries a civil servant, that person will be reported immediately,” he said. Syamsuddin promised to conduct surprise inspections not only at entrances but also in Subdistrict and District offices. “If anyone violates [the decree] we will know.”
For its 1,000 employees, the West Jakarta Government will provide buses and a 500-meters-long bicycle parking space. “It will be located on the ground floor of the parking structure at the Mayor’s Office.”
