TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), stated that the existing flats are not able to accommodate Kampung Pulo residents for their relocation.
"Our flats are not ready," Jokowi said at City Hall on Monday. According to Jokowi, he is pushing ahead with development of new flats around Kampung Pulo. "Because they don't want to be relocated to Marunda or Cengkareng."
Development of flats in Jatinegara has begun. "It will finish later this year," he said. Blocks of South Cipinang Besar flats are also being added. "We will keep developing," he added.
Jokowi confirmed that the people are ready to be relocated. "We have informed theM repeatedly, and they agree," he uttered.
The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to relocated residents of Ciliwung Riverbank and Kampung Pulo as there will be a river normalization project to prevent further flooding in Jakarta.
