TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) indicated that excluding private companies from the city's sanitary affairs would not be feasible as garbage truck procurement was canceled.
Earlier, the Jakarta Provincial Government planned to procure 200 garbage trucks this year aimed at managing garbage independently. But the procurement budget had not been included in the Jakarta Regional Budget for 2014. The Jakarta Regional Parliament claimed that it had not received the proposal for the procurement budget.
According to Jokowi, Jakarta administration cannot carry out the garbage management task since garbage trucks are unavailable. Meanwhile, he said, waiting for the Budget Amendment would take a long time.
"While we're waiting for the Budget Amendment, garbage is piling up," said Jokowi.
Jokowi added that the ideal number of garbage trucks for the city is 400 units, while the available ones are less than the ideal number. Moreover, most of the available trucks are 20 to 30 years old.
