TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that he has requested PD Pasar Jaya, a market management company, to extend free rent of shops for sellers at Block G Pasar Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. He said that the free rent will be extended for six months.
"Rent-free [of shops] will be extended. But PD Pasar Jaya needs to confirm it," Jokowi said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, February 24, 2014.
PD Pasar Jaya director Djangga Lubis said that the management will extend the free rent for the sellers. But he cannot yet confirm the length of the extension. He said that he needs to wait and see the development.
Earlier, street vendors, who were relocated to shops at Block G Tanah Abang, had been enjoying rent-free shops for six months since August 2013. But the number of buyers at the market was low so that they were back selling their goods on streets. Moreover, their free rent period will expire at the end of this month.
