Survey: Jokowi Presidency Run Suppresses Number of Non-Voters

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cirus Surveyors Group had released a survey about ‘The Positions of Political Parties and Presidential Candidates A Month Before The General Election’ on Saturday. The survey that was conducted in collaboration with Harian Republika and Indonesian Vision Team 2033 revealed that the Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) presidency run could suppress the number of non-voters.
"At least [suppressing] by 5 percent," said Cirus Executive Director, Andrinof Chaniago in his office in South Jakarta.
According to Andrinof, the so-called "Jokowi Effect" is significant to the participation rate of the voters. He predicted the participation rate in the legislative election on April 9 will be around 75 to 75 percent. Adrinof also revealed that there are people who haven’t been informed about the legislative election date.
"There is 42.83 percent of the respondents who did not know that the legislative election will be conducted on the coming April 9," Adrinof said.
The survey was done on 2,200 respondents from 33 provinces in Indonesia aged over 17 years old. As many as 57 percent respondents are living in the suburbs and the other 43 percents are living in the cities.
