TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo gave the green light to the renovation of the capital's historical site Kota Tua during the “Fatahillah Fiesta” event yesterday. “Kota Tua has a great deal of potentials with a total space of 284 hectares,” Jokowi said in his opening speech. The renovation will be carried out by the Jakarta administration and the consortium comprising state enterprises and private companies.
The governor hoped the cooperation of the consortium and his administration would make the project a success. “If we only count on the government, it will not be finished till years,” he said.
Jokowi pledged to begin the renovation this year. “When Mr. S.D. Darmono’s group came eight months ago, I was upbeat that this project was feasible,” he said, referring to the President Director of PT Jababeka, the nation’s major industrial developer that is also part of the consortium.
The Fatahillah Fiesta will last until Sunday, March 16, 2014. “It is free,” said Arie Budiman, chief of Jakarta’s Tourism Agency.
