TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Institute for Development of Economics and Finance's (Indef) economist, Enny Sri Hartati, said that the announcement of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as a presidential candidate has become a positive reference for investors because they view his candidacy would brings hopes in the future.
According to Enny, a number of Jokowi's achievements in Jakarta such as the development of reservoirs in Pluit and the management of Tanah Abang have become shareholders' consideration. "Jokowi's existence will have positive impacts on investments, but not just as an interest, but also how to realize the investments later," she said on Friday, March 14.
Actually, Enny further explained, investors are not largely influenced by who the president is. They only require a consistency in regulations. The public always wanted a vision of economic sovereignty. All this time, the Indonesian economics appears to have lost its sovereignty.
During Jokowi's leadership in Jakarta, traffic jams and floods have become investors' considerations. These two problems have not been resolved yet. However, according to Enny, those problems are difficult to be solved by any leader. "Whatever happens, I believe what's important is to continue maintain market mechanisms without interventions," she concluded.
