TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), finally declared himself as a candidate in the upcoming 2014 presidency run. It was delivered by Jokowi after he got a mandate from Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Sukarnoputri.
"I have a mandate from the Chairman of Democratic Party of Struggle Megawati Sukarnoputri to be a presidential candidate. With God willing, I am ready to implement [the mandate]," declared Jokowi in Pitung house, Marunda, North Jakarta, on Friday.
In this election, the current governor of Jakarta will be strongly backed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle and most importantly, Megawati Soekarnoputri, the party's sole and most important decision maker.
After declaring himself steadily, Jokowi then kissed the Indonesian flag standing at his back. "We are now in working hours, so we need to get back to work," uttered Jokowi.
