TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential candidate from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Joko Widodo -- better known as Jokowi -- emphasized the importance of youths' roles in national development. On the first day of legislative campaign, the man who is familiarly known as Jokowi visited historical places along with his party’s cadres.
"It is time for youths to become leaders," he said at the Sumpah Pemuda (Youth Pledge) Museum, Kramat, Senen, Central Jakarta, Sunday, March 16.
According to Jokowi, the museum is a witness to the historic birth of Indonesia that is of one language, nation and country. "Today should also become the witness to the history of the united nation," he said.
During the visits, dozens of motorcycles followed the convoy of PDI-P's legislative campaign. The museum was the second place that he visited after the Kebangkitan Nasional (National Awakening) Museum.
Jokowi's campaign route commenced from Budi Utomo building heading toward Sumpah Pemuda Building, then followed by BPUPKI (Indonesian Independence Preparation Investigative Assembly) Building, Pola building and a traditional market that is close to Pola building. The historical tour ended at Cendrawasih building, West Jakarta.
