TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Political expert from Indonesia Science Institute, Firman Noor, stated that Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is likely to lose Jakarta in his presidential campaign. He suggested that there are many parties wishing that Jokowi remains governing Jakarta for now. "Logically, that is possible. Jokowi is expected to fix the Capital, yet he elects to run for presidency," said Firman Noor.
He added that back in 2012, Jokowi did not nail his victory in Jakarta. Instead, the Jokowi-Ahok pair had to undergo a second decisive round to win by 53.82 percent, meaning that half of Jakarta voters was not in favor of Jokowi.
"Jokowi's leadership has received positive reviews. However, there are some that see it less significant," he said. With critics arising, challenging Jokowi's running for residency, it is possible that it can help other contenders to win over Jakarta.
Previously, political expert at Gadjah Mada University Ari Dwipayana stated that attacks towards Jokowi is a strategy from his contenders to surpress Jokowi's electability. "Such attacks showed that his competitors were freaking out," he said. Ari added that the attacks came in various forms, such as highlighting Jokowi's breaking his oath as the governor of Jakarta.
