TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has rebuffed the recent whirlwind of rumor that his son had received illicit cash worth billions of rupiahs from Michael Bimo Putranto related to the problem-ridden procurement of TransJakarta buses.
“That is a political rumor. It’s normal in the current political atmosphere,” he said at the City Hall on Monday, April 7, 2014.
It was reported earlier that a short cellular message titled “KPK [Corruption Eradication Commission] & PPATK [Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre] MAKE A MOVE!” had been circulating in the public, saying Jakartans had to let go their governors to be named a suspect in the graft-tainted procurement of TransJakarta bus fleet.
According to the message, the Corruption Eradication Commission and the Attorney General Office had secured evidence related to the transfer of illicit cash from the Jakarta Transport Agency chief to Bimo Putranto, an ex-member of Jokowi’s success team in the past gubernatorial race. It also said both institutions had obtained testimonies from two suspects claiming they gave hundreds of billions of rupiahs to Bimo Putranto.
