TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), had claimed that the green house project that he funded it from his own pocket had generated results. The green house is a program of planting trees on several tracks of land in the capital city. One of the green house experiments that have started operating is in Marunda low-cost apartment, North Jakarta.
The green house that is located on the apartment's courtyard is already two months old, where its residents plant red and green leaf lettuces, chilies, eggplants, and pok choi (Chinese cabbage). "The veggies had been sold at traditional markets by the apartment residents," he said on Friday, April 11.
Jokowi stated that he had received a report on the sales of the green house's harvest, which were amounted to Rp500,000. "This is just from one harvest. Later on, they can harvest it every day," he said.
Jokowi is planning to set up 20 more green houses in a number of places. If all green houses can be harvested, he estimated that its monthly income could reach Rp24 million. "In fact, they could also be exported," he said.
