TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is waiting for his official leave-of-office letter that will be issued by the President and Home Affairs Ministry. After it is issued, he will immediately leave his official residence in Menteng, Jakarta.
Gubernatorial and foreign affairs bureau head Heru Budi Hartono said Jokowi has decided to leave the house during his leave of absence. "Mr Governor has decided to leave, to avoid risks," he told Tempo, Saturday, May 31.
However, according to Heru, Jokowi still has the right to stay in the official residence. "As head of government he is indeed currently on leave, but he is still a regional head who receives the official residence facility," he explained. However, he said, Jokowi has decided to leave in order to avoid unsavoury rumors that may break out.
During his absence as a governor, Jokowi stated that he would not live in his official residence. Yesterday, he claimed he had cleared out his furniture and is ready to leave, when he received the official letter. According to the schedule, today is the official announcement of presidential and vice-presidential candidates by the General Elections Commission (KPU). After that, Jokowi will be a presidential candidate who will be officially on leave.
