TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential candidate Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had asked supporters in Solo, Central Java, to ensure a landslide victory in the city and boost his chances of a victory in the presidential election on July 9, as reported by Antara News.
The landslide victory in Solo, his home town, could compensate for smaller vote collection in other regions, he said on his last leg of his campaign tour of several districts in West and Central Java since Wednesday.
"There are still regions where vote collection would not be maximal," he said. "So, I hope Solo in particular and Central Java in general could become barns of votes for me to run for the presidency. In view of that I appeal to all cadres to work hard. I know they have already been working hard, but I hope they could again maximize their efforts," he said.
The chairman of the Solo chapter of the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Hadi Rudyatmo, assured that until now cadres in Solo remained solid despite rumors aimed at undermining the Jokowi-JK ticket.
Jakarta governor Jokowi with former vice president Jusuf Kalla will compete against former military figure Prabowo Subianto who paired with former economic minister Hatta Rajasa in the presidential election on July 9.
