TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo attended a plenary meeting on Wednesday, 23 July 2014, at the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD DKI) when resuming his post-election service to put several regional bills into effect.
The council has passed seven regional bills, including a bill draft regarding Regional Working Unit Organizations, regional retribution, billboard advertisements, vehicle taxes, entertainment taxes, Jakarta Islamic center and mass rapid transit bus management system.
Jokowi hoped that the seven bills would improve the performance of working units in Jakarta. Jokowi also expected that the Jakarta administration would better its performance in managing the city’s financial.
In relation to a bill governing advertisement billboards, councillor Ruddin Akbar Lubis said the regulation would maintain Jakarta’s aesthetics. In addition, the bill would govern billboards erected on private and government’s lands.
“The bill governs that advertisement billboards would have an added value to the city’s architecture and aesthetics, in the forms of videotrons or megatrons,” Ruddin said.
