TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Trimedya Panjaitan, Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla's legal team leader, said he has some 500 lawyers ready to refute Prabowo Subianto's allegation against the Elections Commission (KPU) at the Constitutional Court. Trimedya told Tempo on Thursday, July 24, that the team has prepared documents and witnesses that will help rebut Prabowo's accusations.
"There are evidences for East Java, West Java and other provinces," he said.
Prabowo "withdrew" from the election process just two hours before KPU's scheduled announcement of the final tally and the declaration of a new president, alleging massive fraud by the election organizer.
Through his legal team, he said he would sue the KPU, estimating that some 2,000 lawyers will be hired to face the KPU in court.
Trimedya said his team did not find plenty of objections from Prabowo-Hatta's camp in the polls. "Their objection only accounted for less than 10 percent of all polling stations," he said.
Therefore, Trimedya is certain that Prabowo-Hatta's camp will lose their claim. The confidence also stems from the fact that there is an inarguably large margin between both camps' total votes.
"Suing 500,000 votes would require five containers [of ballots] as evidence. Suing 8.4 million votes would be more difficult," he said, "For me, they are just delaying their defeat," he said.
