TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said he was assessing the function of the existing ministries, signalling he was likely to establish new ministries to realize his visions and missions for the country.
Jokowi said he might set up a maritime ministry to help his administration focus on maritime affairs.
During his presidential campaign, Jokowi said constructing a sea freeway and deep-sea harbor was one of his aims if he was elected president. "Of course we want to concentrate on sea issues," he said.
Jokowi said the ministry would be tasked to administer sea matters, including the construction of sea infrastructure. He added that, according to his recent meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, the Japanese government was interested in supporting his programs on sea infrastructure.
Jokowi also said the Japanese government planned on investing in Indonesia. Jokowi, however, said the investment should be focusing on infrastructure. "The investment should be confined to infrastructure, because that is what we need," he said.
