TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo met with Japan's Foreign Affairs Minister Fumio Kishida at the City Hall, Tuesday, August 12. Both men discussed a number of issues in the 30-minute meeting; one of them is Indonesia's Law No.4/2009 on Mineral and Coal.

Jokowi said Mr. Kishida asked if it is possible for both countries to renegotiate matters concerning the law, especially about the ban on raw mining products exports.

President elect Jokowi firmly stated that he will remain subject to the constitution. "We are sticking with the Mining Law. But technical matters could be discussed again later."

Earlier, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik said two countries have protested over Indonesia's Mining Law. In the APEC Ministers Responsible Mining meeting in Beijing last month, he said, Japan and the United States "attacked" the Indonesian delegation.

"Team Japan and America attacked me. They are not happy with the implementation of the Mining law," Jero said.
