TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has serenely responded to the Prabowo-Hatta camp’s recent statement refusing to reconcile with his side.
Jokowi said there was no need for reconciliation as there had been no previous quarrel pertaining to the July 9 presidential race between both camps.
“What reconciliation? It’s okay. Reconciliation is called for if there is a conflict. I don’t think we have any right now,” he said at the City Hall on Friday, August 15, 2014.
Jokowi said what happened during the presidential election period was a competition, in which there was always be the winner and the loser. And when the competition ended, he went on, everything would be back to normal.
“It’s alright. Reconciliation is called for when there is a row. This is about the presidential race. When it’s over, it’s over,” he said.
Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party’s advisory council, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, said his party would not reconcile with the Jokowi camp, not even after the Constitutional Court (MK) announced its ruling as to who the actual victor of the presidential election was.
“There will be no reconciliation. Never,” he said.
