TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Joko Widodo said Indonesian officials should be wearing batik more often. "Well, we could have a special policy about wearing batik," said Jokowi.
Jokowi said it was okay for state officials to wear batik everyday. "We have plenty kinds of batik, from Sabang to Merauke," he said. "Therefore, we can don a different motive each day."
Jokowi also said that he prefered batik to suit. "[Wearing] batik is better than suit," he said. "Batik is part of the Indonesian culture, suit is not."
Thus, Jokowi expects that batik can be seen more often, both in official or public contexts. "It is possible that there will be a presidential decree on wearing batik," said Jokowi jokingly.
