TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President-elect Joko Widodo will have a welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace upon being inaugurated as president on Monday, October 20, 2014. The people will be allowed to enter the palace to witness the ceremony.
“This is the first time that people are allowed to go beyond the palace gate,” said Jay Wijayanto, the coordinator of event, which is dubbed “The People’s Three-Finger” ceremony, on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.
Jay said the people would be allowed access to the palace to attend the ceremony. “There are about 7,000 seats available for the people to attend the ceremony in the palace,” he said.
Jay explained access to the palace was restricted to the president, vice president and state guests on regular days. However, the palace would be open to the public on Jokowi’s inauguration day. “The palace is for the people,” he said.
