TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rully Akbar, a researcher at the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI), said on Thursday, October 30, 2014, that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's administration must address three issues to maintain its public image.
The first issue, Rully said, is related to the fuel price hike that is expected to reduce fiscal burden. On the other hand, Rully predicted that public supports for Jokowi might drop if Jokowi realized the plan to raise fuel prices.
"Supports from lower-middle class [for Jokowi] may drop," he said.
LSI survey revealed that 51.20 percent of respondents would blame Jokowi for fuel price hike, while 32.40 percent of them considered that the fuel price hike would be caused by the House of Representatives (DPR).
Second, Jokowi must be able to return the regional head elections to direct voting system as it would become the main criteria for public to asses Jokowi's performance as the president.
The final issue relates to Jokowi’s ability to realize his promises made during the presidential campaign. About 74.6 percent of respondents asked Jokowi to keep his promises to improve the country’s economy, eradicate corruption and manage diversity issues. Jokowi is also urged to realize his nine political contracts within 100 days of his office term.
