TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo gave Rp300 million to the fishermen community in Tambaklorok hamlet of Tanjungmas village, Semarang, that needs small business capital. The money was given directly to the neighborhood chief when the president visited the hamlet's fishing dock on Tuesday, December 2.
The cash assistance was distributed to women and poor fishermen who make money selling fish, fried foods, and raise livestock. The money was given through neighborhood chief because Tambaklorok, a village of 800 families who are mostly fishermen, had no cooperatives.
In addition to giving the money, Jokowi—accompanied by Central Java Governor and Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi also gave out social cards that can help the poor fishermen get medical and educational assistance.
