KontraS: Jokowi Discriminates Human Rights Violation Cases

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Commissions for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) viewed that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is not fully committed in addressing human rights violation cases in Indonesia. Kontras coordinator Haris Azhar said that Jokowi is discriminating the human rights cases.

“Jokowi called on Lapindo mud case to be addressed, but mentioned nothing about Talangsari case,” Haris said in a press conference.

According to Haris, Jokowi preferred to address human rights violation cases that did not involve his affiliations. For instance, Haris said, Jokowi prioritized Lapindo mud case that involved Golkar Chairman Abu Rizal Bakrie’s company, instead of Talangsari case.

Kontras alleged that the Talangsari case, occured in 1998, involved Jokowi’s close person, former National Intelligence Agency (BIN) Hendro Priyono. Haris also viewed that Jokowi is reluctant in exposing Semanggi Tragedy and Trisakti cases that took place in 1998.

Haris revealed that the Trisakti case involved People’s Conscience (Hanura) Party Chairman Wiranto. Hanura is a party that joined a coalition led by the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI-P).

“Jokowi is reluctant to address the case because Wiranto was involved in the case,” Haris said.
