Jokowi to Lead Aceh Tsunami Commemoration

TEMPO.CO, Banda Aceh - President Joko Widodo is slated to lead the commemoration of the 10-year Aceh tsunami in Blang Padang field, Banda Aceh on Friday, December 26, 2014.

Aceh Governor Zaini Abdullah said the president would also visit disaster exhibition stalls prior to having a funciton with VIP guests.

Zaini said some 5,000 guests were expected to join the event, including representatives from 35 foreign nations and 35 international donors.

He added the province was now gearing up to welcome representatives from various nations, including the United States, the Great Britain, Japan and Australia, which were among the many nations that lent a hand in efforts to deal with the catastrophe's aftermath.

The commemoration had four purposes: reflection, grateful expression, rising momentum and being a site of education on tsunami.
