TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has formed an independent team in order to find solutions from chaotic issues occurring between the Eradication Corruption Commission (KPK) and the National Police (Polri). The first meeting was held today, Jan. 25, by a team consisting of national figures.
“We are asked to give suggestions related to the issue and relation between KPK and Polri, including Police and KPK personnels who faces legal process. We were personally invited,” said one of the team member, Jimly Asshidique, in the Presidential Palace on Sunday, Jan. 25.
The team consist of seven people, including Honorary Chairman of the Board of Election Jimly Asshidique, former Vice Chief of National Police Commissioner General Oegroseno, Police observer Bambang Widodo Umar, international law observer Hikmahanto Juwana, and former KPK Chief Erri Riyana, former KPK Chief Tumpak Hatorangan and Chairman of Muhammadiyah Ahmad Syafii Maarif who was absent tonight.
Former Deputy Chief of Polri Oegroseno said that he still does not know what the team’s working environment will be like. However, the team’s primary purpose is to ease tensions between the two institutions.
According to Oegroseno, the team will work as quickly as possible so that a conducive situation could likely occur.
Secretary of State Pratikno said the president deliberately appoints people who understands the law and have good track records in the two institutions, KPK and Polri. It’s will a warm-up. Later on, discussions will often be held,” he said.
